My Foundation: Beliefs and Values Shaping Your Journey
Understanding is love.
I teach you how to love yourself by showing you a path of self-knowledge and understanding. My CLIENTS are able to build a positive relationship with aspects that are challenging to embrace when they grasp the purpose behind those elements.
Emotions are not as vague as they seem.
I take a values based approach. My personal philosophy is that your values represent your fundamental needs. Your emotions act as messengers, signaling when your needs are either met or unmet. These emotional signals manifest as physical sensations in your body, creating a direct connection between your values and the comfort or discomfort you experience. Emotions serve as tangible indicators, guiding us to recognize when our values are aligned or misaligned.
Trauma isn’t always what you think it is.
Trauma is less about what happened to you and more about what you started to believe in response to what happened. Our experiences are not just registered in memory but stored on 3 distinct levels– logical, emotional, and somatic.
For instance, someone may logically know their worthiness, yet experience an emotional DISCONNECT of bodily resistance when stating, "I'm enough." The therapeutic intervention i recommend is DEPENDENT on each individual. The hierarchy is logical, emotional, and somatic, with logical being the most adaptable, followed by emotional, and somatic at the deepest level.
Consider two individuals witnessing a burning building. One might internalize it as a traumatic EXPERIENCE, fostering a belief that safety is uncontrollable, and fear meets them at every corner as they feel themselves clinch and their heart race in the presence of each new obstacle in their life. Meanwhile, another might interpret the same event as a source of empowerment, with the belief that their life is a WONDROUS miracle, turning each corner with excitement and confidence, physically at ease.
This illustrates that trauma is not solely about the external events but hinges on the belief systems shaping our perception. Remarkably, what one person finds traumatic another may navigate with resilience. The empowering aspect lies in RECOGNIZING that it's never too late to process those belief systems. Through therapeutic INTERVENTION, individuals can embark on a journey to shift these beliefs, transforming them into positive narratives that foster healing and resilience.
There is an undeniable mind-body connection.
The same way that our physical state influences our mental well-being, the reverse holds true– our mental state equally affects our physical state. Unaddressed emotional challenges can manifest physically in the form of chronic pain, digestive issues, frequent headaches, etc. Understanding and addressing the emotional roots becomes essential in promoting holistic well-being.
Symptom management is not the same as taking care of the problem.
I use the analogy of a "trauma carrot." When you are healing, managing symptoms is like trimming the visible sprouts from a "trauma carrot." These sprouts represent the discomfort you experience. While cutting the sprouts is a valuable form of symptom management, it's crucial to recognize that true healing involves addressing the root cause. The roots, though initially harder to see and requiring more effort initially, hold the key to eliminating the need for perpetual symptom management.
